Reflection on The Vignelli Canon

Reading The Vignelli Canon helped me better understand graphic design. One of the main focuses is simplicity and timelessness. In the book, Vignelli promotes the minimalist approach when designing images. His main points are on clean lines, removing unnecessary elements, and clear communication. The focus on simplicity really stuck with me because it highlights the importance of creating images that can last for long periods of time. If you focus on the core part of the design, it can still have relevance the older it gets.

Another aspect of the book that stood out to me was his description of the grid system. The grid provides structure and order to a design. By understanding the grid system, you can better enhance your skills as a graphic designer. It is used to create balanced designs as well as creating a visual hierarchy.

The last point that Vignelli made about design, was to look at it from a philosophical point of view. He believes that design is a problem-solving discipline, and you should find the most efficient way to design images. He emphasizes the importance of understanding the purpose and context of a design project and using that knowledge to create the best solutions.

Overall, I think that The Vignelli Canon is a great resource for beginner or even advanced designers. He captures extensive knowledge and experience and offers his advice within the pages. This reflection focuses on the simplicity of the design process and also to focus on the core aspect of the design itself.
